Manchester City have agreed to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for 55 million euros (£46.3 million). The 26-year-old will join on a five-year deal after agreeing personal terms with the club. The transfer still depends on him passing a medical, and the total fee could increase if certain conditions are met.
Manchester City Set to Sign Tijjani Reijnders
City want to complete the signing before the Club World Cup starts on 14 June. Reijnders will help fill the gap left by injured midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who had surgery on his Achilles and will miss the tournament. Kevin De Bruyne is also unlikely to take part, as he may be moving to Napoli.
Reijnders is a well-rounded midfielder, known for his passing and ability to move the ball under pressure. Last season, he scored 15 goals in 54 games for AC Milan and was named Serie A’s midfielder of the season. Even though Milan had a poor season and finished eighth, Reijnders had the best goal-scoring year of his career.
He started his career at PEC Zwolle and later played for AZ Alkmaar before joining Milan. At Manchester City, he could play alongside Rodri or take a more advanced role in midfield. His skills and versatility will give coach Pep Guardiola more options in the midfield.
