Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has dismissed calls for President William Ruto to resign, which have been gaining traction, especially on social media.
The cry of “Ruto must go” has been a constant chant, but Sudi has firmly stated that President Ruto is not going anywhere.
“Don’t you know the online scammers from Nairobi? They keep shouting ‘Ruto must go’ and all sorts of things. Didn’t I tell them yesterday to jump up, down, or to the side? There’s no place where Ruto is going. What do you think?” Sudi remarked on Friday, January 10, 2024, while accompanying the President on a development tour in Uasin Gishu County.
Sudi continued to challenge those who think only they can lead the country. “Even a Mluhya can lead; a Turkana can lead. Any Kenyan with the ability to lead can be a leader. Why not me? Could I be president someday?” he said.
President Ruto’s response to the political tension included a call for an end to the 2027 election campaigns. The President expressed that his work should be judged by 2027, not by the current political noise.
“I want to tell you, my fellow Kenyans, that the political talk about 2027 is premature. Wait, things are still fresh, and there is more to come. We have work to do,” President Ruto said.
He emphasized that his focus is on areas such as education, agriculture, healthcare, electricity, and infrastructure. Ruto stated, “I will present my scorecard in 2027. You can’t sell lies to the people. The citizens know what they want.”
There has been speculation about a potential coalition between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the next election. However, President Ruto’s remarks seem to push such talk aside for now.
