Members of Parliament have sharply criticized Juja MP George Koimburi after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that he faked his own abduction to gain political sympathy. DCI boss Amin Mohamed and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed that Koimburi coordinated with his assistant and other associates to stage the incident, even staying at a hotel during the period he was allegedly missing.

DCI Uncovers Staged Incident
DCI boss Amin Mohamed and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that Koimburi worked with his assistant and other associates to fabricate the abduction. He even stayed at a hotel during the period he was supposedly missing.
MPs React Strongly in Parliament
During a heated session, National Assembly MP Junet Mohamed said the story was “clearly staged.” He highlighted that the first photo of Koimburi lying in a coffee plantation looked fake, pointing to his posture and clothing as evidence.
Junet compared the case to a previous incident involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing allies of selective access to hospitals and calling it repeated political drama. He also commended the National Police Service (NPS) for their quick action, warning that more fake abductions could have occurred without their intervention.
Calls for Accountability
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah backed Junet’s claims and urged the DPP, EACC, and other authorities to take action. He suggested the people of Juja consider recalling Koimburi, claiming the MP now serves his political sponsors more than his constituents.
Ichung’wah also reminded Parliament that Koimburi had previously alleged MPs were bribed Ksh. 2 million to pass the Finance Bill. Though Koimburi apologized, Ichung’wah stressed that such behavior should no longer be tolerated.
Hospital Under Scrutiny
Karen Hospital, where Koimburi was allegedly taken, also faced criticism. Some MPs were denied access, while former DP Gachagua and his team were allowed in. Ichung’wah called on the hospital’s founder, Dr. Dan Gikonyo, to prevent it from being used for political stunts.
Investigation Confirms Lies
After questioning three additional suspects, the police and DCI confirmed that Koimburi’s story contained numerous lies and inconsistencies, proving the abduction was staged for political gain.
