The Bank of Tanzania Governor, Emanuel Tutuba, has announced the introduction of new Tanzanian banknotes featuring updated signatures. These notes, bearing the signatures of Finance Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba and Governor Emanuel Tutuba, will enter circulation on February 1, 2025.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during a ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Governor Tutuba handed over the new notes—10,000, 5,000, 2,000, and 1,000 Tanzanian shillings—to Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba. This update aligns with the country’s financial laws and regulations.
The new banknotes will circulate alongside the current ones, retaining the same security features, sizes, colors, and overall design. The only significant change is the updated signatures of the Finance Minister and the BoT Governor. Previously, the 2010 series notes featured signatures of former Finance Minister and current Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango and former Governor Professor Florens Luoga.
In his remarks, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba expressed his appreciation to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving the process. He also commended Governor Tutuba for ensuring the smooth and professional printing of the new banknotes.
