Kenyans Rally Behind Mukuru Kwa Njenga Woman After Pastor Ng’ang’a Rejects Her Plea for Help

Kenyans have once again demonstrated their spirit of harambee by coming together to support Milka Tegisi, a resident of Mukuru Kwa Njenga, who was publicly dismissed by Pastor James Ng’ang’a after seeking financial assistance to pay her rent.

Online Fundraiser Surpasses Ksh240,000

Thanks to an online crowdfunding initiative spearheaded by police officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare, Kenyans had raised an impressive Ksh240,000 by Friday, January 31, 2025. Donations were made directly to Milka’s M-Pesa number, ensuring she could regain access to her home after her landlord locked her out due to unpaid rent.

Ngare shared the update on his Facebook page, expressing amazement at the overwhelming generosity of Kenyans. He urged those willing to contribute to continue sending their donations.

“Hakuna kama Jehovah. Milka is blessed. Tumefika 240k now. Keep them coming. Your 100, 200, 500, 1k, 2k, 5k. 0705028977 Milka Tegisi. I will be visiting her pale Mukuru Kwa Njenga. Nani ako ready twende?” – Sammy Ondimu Ngare

The fundraiser gained traction after a viral video surfaced, showing Milka sobbing at Pastor Ng’ang’a’s church altar while seeking assistance. Instead of extending help, the outspoken preacher rebuked her harshly.

“Pastor nimefungiwa nyumba one week leo,” Milka pleaded, her voice breaking with emotion.

Ng’ang’a, however, dismissed her plea, directing her to seek help from the police or government officials.

“Enda polisi hapo. Polisi ya kwenu ni wapi? Sasa umefungiwa, umekuja hapa kutafuta pesa. Hapa ni kwa maombi. Kama ni mambo ya maombi, sawa. Pesa, enda kwa cabinet. Enda kwa Sakaja.”

The pastor went on to emphasize that he does not give out money under any circumstances, warning other congregants not to bring him financial concerns.

Adding to the controversy, Ng’ang’a suggested that Milka should seek accommodation in the government’s affordable housing program.

“Si kuna nyumba zimejengwa zinaitwa affordable? Si uende ukae hizo za affordable?” he questioned, reinforcing that his role as a spiritual leader does not extend to financial aid.

His remarks sparked heated discussions online, with many criticizing his lack of compassion and urging religious leaders to be more supportive of their congregants.

While Pastor Ng’ang’a turned Milka away, Kenyans rallied behind her, showcasing the power of digital activism. The overwhelming support underscores the role of social media in mobilizing assistance for those in need.

The fundraiser remains open, and those willing to assist can contribute to Milka via M-Pesa (0705028977, Milka Tegisi).
