Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has officially announced his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, positioning himself as a champion of youth-driven leadership and fresh ideas for Kenya’s future.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on May 14, 2025, Salasya said Kenya is ready for transformative leadership that reflects the energy and vision of its young population.
“I am the anointed one to lead us forward,” he declared.

A New Movement for the People
This latest announcement follows his earlier declaration on April 28, 2025, where the 35-year-old first-term MP revealed that he will run under a new political movement focused on unity, integrity, and people power — not tribal alliances or financial influence.
“This movement’s name and leadership will be unveiled in due course. It will not be built on tribal alliances or money power, but on people power,” he said.
Healthcare and Anti-Corruption Reforms
If elected, Salasya pledged to make healthcare reform a top priority. He plans to restructure the Social Health Authority (SHA) and audit the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to ensure transparency and accountability.
“We shall audit and clean up the NHIF legacy mess and guarantee transparency in healthcare funds,” he stated.
On corruption, Salasya described the vice as “economic sabotage” and vowed to implement a fully digital and transparent procurement system. He promised to strengthen anti-corruption agencies and ensure swift justice for those found guilty of looting public funds.
Education and Youth Empowerment
In the education sector, Salasya committed to modernizing TVET institutions, expanding digital literacy, and introducing mandatory internships and graduate trainee programs across all government departments.
“No degree should gather dust. No young dream should die due to hopelessness,” he said.
He also announced plans to establish a Gen Z Presidential Advisory Council to ensure youth participation in national policymaking.
“I will form the first-ever Gen Z Presidential Advisory Council to embed their voices in every national decision,” he pledged.
Defending Rights and Freedoms
Salasya vowed to defend digital rights, civic freedoms, and freedom of expression, promising to end police brutality and uphold the independence of the judiciary.
“Under my leadership, laws will apply fairly to all, regardless of status, tribe, or region,” he assured.
