Entrepreneur Khalif Kairo has revealed that his WeFunder campaign account, which raised over Ksh12.93 million (approximately USD 100,000) in just 24 hours, was abruptly closed, adding to his ongoing legal and financial troubles.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, January 29, Kairo explained that the closure has severely affected his ability to operate his business. “We have tried everything to resolve these issues amicably and fulfill our deliveries, but negative media publicity and constant police involvement are putting us in deeper waters. All our offices are currently closed. I am in Milimani Law Courts and will be presented for plea-taking shortly,” he said.
Kairo, who has faced numerous court cases unrelated to his decade-long car business, emphasized that he has never faced criminal charges related to car sales until recently. “I have had an impressive ten-year run in business with zero criminal cases related to cars, and thousands of people have successfully bought cars from me. Due to these legal issues, our WeFunder campaign was shut down last night after crossing the USD 100,000 mark,” he added.
Launched on Monday, January 27, the WeFunder campaign aimed to raise funds to sustain Kairo’s business. However, the account was closed within 24 hours for unclear reasons, leaving him in a precarious financial position. Kairo is now appealing directly to the public for support.
“All is not lost. I am appealing to my supporters, friends, old clients, and associates to contribute whatever they can and give us a fighting chance against the unknown forces sabotaging my company,” he said. Kairo clarified that contributions would be treated as donations, not investments, and promised a transparent audit trail to show how funds would be used to revive his business.
Kairo’s legal troubles intensified on Tuesday, January 28, when he was rearrested outside Milimani Law Courts and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road. Although the exact reason for his rearrest was not disclosed, it is believed to relate to complaints from clients alleging unfulfilled car sale agreements.
Known for his flamboyant online marketing strategies, Kairo has built a significant following over the years. However, recent legal and financial challenges have cast a shadow over his once-thriving business, leaving the future of his enterprise uncertain.
