Meta Donates $1 Million to Trump’s Inaugural Fund

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has confirmed donating $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund. This news comes two weeks after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg met privately with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The donation was first reported by The Wall Street Journal and has sparked significant interest in the tech and political communities.

Reports suggest that Zuckerberg is pursuing a more active role in the incoming administration, potentially shaping tech policy. This marks a surprising shift for Meta, which banned Trump from its platforms following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots.

Leading up to the election, Zuckerberg expressed admiration for Trump in an interview, calling his reaction to a July assassination attempt “badass.” The incident saw Trump, after being shot in the face, pump his fist with an American flag. Zuckerberg described it as one of the “most badass things” he had ever witnessed.

This evolving relationship comes as several top tech executives — including Apple’s Tim Cook, Google’s Sundar Pichai, and Amazon’s Andy Jassy — sought meetings with Trump before Election Day. These engagements were part of an effort to connect with the then-presidential candidate during a closely contested race.

Trump’s relationship with tech companies has shifted dramatically. Previously critical of platforms like Facebook, he had labeled it an “enemy of the people” earlier this year. This led to a 4% drop in Meta’s shares on the same day. Trump also hinted at potential legal action against tech leaders, including Zuckerberg, in posts on his Truth Social platform.

Despite this history, Trump has recently praised tech companies and shared details of his private discussions with their leaders. This evolving dynamic suggests a potential new chapter in the relationship between tech giants and Trump’s administration.

This development highlights how tech and politics are becoming increasingly intertwined as influential leaders navigate mutual interests.
