A chilling series of events has highlighted a disturbing rise in murder cases across various parts of Kenya. Among the incidents is the tragic story of Ann Wangui, 26, who allegedly gave her six-year-old son, Victor Kipkurui, several tablets before locking him in a house in Olrongai Kichwa and leaving with her younger son, Newton Kiruto, aged 4. The next day, Victor’s body was discovered stuffed in a sack and dumped in a pit latrine.
A neighbor, Bernard Karanja, identified the sack as one he had lent to Ann the previous day. The mother’s whereabouts remain unknown, and authorities are investigating the matter.
In another shocking case, the National Police Service reported that the spouse of a police officer in Turkana killed her child before attempting to take her own life.
In Nyamira County, a couple from Chebilat was arrested after their one-and-a-half-year-old child, Emiliano Ndamara, died under unclear circumstances. Upon examination, the child was found to have sustained head injuries believed to have been caused by a blunt object. Samuel Okoko and Rebecca Mwende had taken the child to Summit Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The hospital informed a village elder, who contacted the police. “Further examination revealed injuries consistent with external blunt force,” police stated.
The wave of violence has also reached Gatundu South, where detectives are probing the death of 63-year-old James Ndungu Kinyanjui. His body was discovered outside his gate, and preliminary investigations indicate he was scalded with hot water.
In Mbita Sub-County, the decomposed body of Kristina Anyango Abanga was found at Litare Beach in a house she shared with another woman. Two men, Erick Okoth Kirasu and Richard Odhiambo Onyango, who were last seen with her, have been arrested as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in Narok Central Sub-County, 35-year-old Susan Moraa was murdered by a group of five men who abducted her in Entoltol. Her body bore severe cuts on the head, right thigh, and left arm, injuries believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. Preliminary investigations revealed that Moraa worked as a salonist.
In Kwale County, the body of a man was found by the roadside in Kinango. Authorities noted deep cuts on his head, suggesting a violent attack.
A domestic dispute in Maragua, Murang’a County, led to the fatal stabbing of a man by his wife. Following a quarrel, the woman had left their home with their one-month-old child to stay with a neighbor. When she returned to collect some belongings, another fight erupted, resulting in her stabbing her husband in self-defense.
Another tragic case unfolded in Oloolua, Kajiado North Sub-County, where a farmhand killed his colleague just days after being dismissed from work. The victim, John Dangiri, 36, was found in his house with a deep cut on his forehead. The house was locked from the inside, and the suspect remains at large. Authorities revealed that the assailant stole solar panels, CCTV cameras, and 19 chickens after the attack.
Police records indicate a troubling rise in violent crimes across the country in recent weeks.
