Gachagua Urges Action
Gachagua called on the government to prioritize the constitution of IEBC, underscoring its role in ensuring credible elections in 2027.
“We are demanding the urgent constitution of IEBC to give them enough time to prepare for the elections. This is not just a government responsibility; it’s also the right of Kenyans to demand a fair and transparent process,” Gachagua added.
Lenaola’s Warning
Gachagua’s remarks align with those of Supreme Court Judge Isaac Lenaola, who recently criticized delays in appointing IEBC commissioners. Speaking at a conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and elections, Lenaola questioned why Parliament prioritizes other legislation over critical electoral reforms.
“How can we focus on passing politically motivated laws and ignore the constitution of the electoral commission? Elections are in 2027, but time is already running out,” Lenaola observed.
He encouraged Kenyans to use social media to amplify the issue, suggesting the hashtag #AppointIEBCNow to pressure authorities into action.
Public Demand for Transparency
Both leaders highlighted that addressing the IEBC issue is vital for public trust in the electoral process. Their shared call to action emphasizes the urgency of safeguarding Kenya’s democratic integrity as the 2027 elections draw closer.
