President William Ruto has finally broken his silence on the recent surge in youth abductions across Kenya. Speaking on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Raila Odinga Stadium Homa Bay (ROSH) during the Odi Genowa Governor’s Cup 2024, Ruto assured Kenyans that the government is taking decisive action to curb these alarming incidents.
“We as the government will do our part to end abductions so that the youth can live in peace and have good morals to contribute to building our nation,” Ruto said.
Ruto Urges Parents to Stay Vigilant
The President also called on parents to take an active role in protecting their children.
“I want to ask every parent: please take care of your children. These children are blessings from God. Let’s protect and guide them. We, as the government, will do our part to end abductions and ensure our youth live with dignity and discipline,” he emphasized.
Criticism from Former Deputy President
Earlier the same day, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized the government’s handling of abductions, suggesting that the authorities were complicit. Speaking at his Mathira home, Gachagua warned that the abductions target government critics.
“President William Ruto must take full responsibility and immediately address these outrageous violations. To remain silent is to suggest that these actions are being carried out with his knowledge and consent,” Gachagua said.
He further alleged that abduction victims are often those who speak out against the government:
“If you speak out against the government, you risk being picked up and disappeared by the so-called Subaru Boys. This strategy is meant to scare Kenyans into silence,” he added.
Public Concern Grows
The surge in abductions has sparked nationwide concern, with Kenyans calling for stronger government measures to protect citizens. Ruto’s pledge to act comes amid ongoing public debates and social media campaigns demanding swift investigations and accountability.
