Controversial socialite Bridget Achieng, at the center of human trafficking allegations, remains in exile in Turkey, fearing arrest if she returns to Kenya. The former Nairobi Diaries star revealed in a TikTok live session that her passport is blocked, preventing her from entering the country. Achieng’s ongoing legal challenges involve accusations of allegedly luring Kenyan women to the Middle East under false pretenses, only for them to be exploited, making her case one of the most high-profile human trafficking controversies involving Kenyan socialites.
Exile in Turkey and Legal Fears
Achieng candidly shared her frustration about being unable to return home. “I cannot enter Kenya because my passport is blocked. I am stuck in Turkey. If I enter Kenya, I will be arrested,” she explained. Despite this, she emphasized her focus on navigating the legal proceedings, picking up her son, and planning a stable future abroad. “It’s not like I can’t go to Dubai or anywhere else, but I’d rather prioritize my case and move forward,” she added.
Human Trafficking Allegations
The allegations against Achieng center on claims that she facilitated the trafficking of Kenyan women to the Middle East, supposedly promising legitimate employment but placing them in exploitative situations. While these accusations have followed her for years, Achieng consistently maintains her innocence, stating that the matter remains before the courts and is yet to be proven.
Past Controversies
This is not the first time Achieng has faced public scrutiny. In 2018, the BBC issued a public apology after a documentary about prostitution aired featuring her. Achieng criticized the documentary for selective editing, arguing that it misrepresented her life and portrayed her unfairly as a prostitute. “They cut out most parts of the interview and left in small parts that made me look like something I’m not,” she said.
Personal Admission and Context
In interviews, Achieng admitted to having engaged in prostitution during her early days out of necessity. She explained, “I had to do it just to get back on my feet. It’s not something any woman should be proud of.” She described the desperation that drove her actions, highlighting the socio-economic pressures she faced at the time.
