Newcastle Beat Tottenham 2–1 After Controlling Key Phases at Spurs’ Home

Newcastle United claimed a 2–1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, delivering a composed away performance built on control, efficiency, and timely responses.

From the opening stages, Newcastle dictated the tempo of the match. Their high press and quick ball circulation forced Tottenham into errors and limited the hosts’ ability to progress through midfield. Inside the first 30 minutes, Newcastle had already won nine corners, a clear indicator of sustained pressure.

Tottenham’s first half was further unsettled when Odobert was forced off through injury in the 35th minute, prompting an early substitution. Newcastle briefly thought they had taken the lead before halftime, but a VAR review ruled out the goal, offering Spurs temporary relief.

That relief did not last. In the 45th minute, Thiaw finally broke the deadlock, converting to give Newcastle a deserved lead at the interval after a dominant first-half display.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Newcastle remaining organised and Tottenham struggling to establish consistent attacking momentum. As the intensity increased, yellow cards were shown to Sarr and Spence for Spurs, and Burn and Guimarães for the visitors.

Tottenham found a lifeline in the 66th minute when Sarr equalised, briefly shifting momentum and lifting the home crowd. However, Newcastle responded immediately. Just three minutes later, Ramsey restored the visitors’ lead, punishing Spurs for failing to stabilise after scoring.

In the closing stages, Newcastle dropped deeper and focused on game management, while Tottenham committed numbers forward in search of another equaliser. Despite five minutes of added time and sustained pressure, Spurs were unable to break through.

The final whistle confirmed a result that reflected the balance of play. Newcastle were more controlled, more decisive, and more efficient in key moments, while Tottenham’s late reaction came too late to change the outcome.
