Understanding Flight Numbers
A flight number identifies a scheduled airline service and normally combines an airline code with a numerical service number.
Examples include:
KQ — Kenya Airways
JM — Jambojet
8H — Fly 748
The flight number should not be confused with an aircraft registration, which identifies the individual physical aircraft.
Airlines can substitute aircraft for operational reasons. Individual Metros route guides should therefore list common aircraft types rather than promising a particular aircraft registration.
Before Taking a Domestic Flight in Kenya
Before travelling, passengers should confirm the departure airport, destination airport or airstrip, airline, flight number, check-in time, baggage allowance, ticket conditions and final fare.
This is particularly important in Nairobi because JKIA and Wilson Airport are separate airports.
Safari passengers should also confirm the exact airstrip serving their lodge, camp or conservancy.
Baggage on Domestic and Safari Flights
Baggage allowances vary significantly between airlines.
Major scheduled airlines may provide different checked-baggage allowances according to the ticket purchased, while smaller safari aircraft frequently have stricter baggage weight and size restrictions.
Soft-sided luggage is often recommended for safari flights because smaller aircraft can have limited baggage-compartment space.
Always check the operating airline’s current baggage rules before travelling.
