Relief for Motorists as Globe Roundabout Fully Reopens

NAIROBI, Mar 25 — Commuters using the Thika Superhighway can now move more freely after traffic flow at Globe Roundabout was fully restored on Wednesday.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) confirmed the reopening following completion of urgent reinstatement works at the Nairobi River bridge, which had forced a temporary closure.

Why the Roundabout Was Closed

The busy junction — linking:

  • Nairobi CBD
  • Kipande Road
  • Thika Superhighway

had been partially shut since March 12, 2026 to allow emergency repairs.

During the closure:

  • Traffic delays were reported during peak hours
  • Public transport vehicles diverted to alternative routes
  • Commuters experienced longer travel times into the CBD
Traffic Back to Normal

KeNHA said normal traffic flow has now resumed and thanked road users for their patience during the disruption.

The authority noted the repairs were necessary to:

  • Improve safety along the corridor
  • Stabilize the bridge structure
  • Ensure smoother traffic movement

KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli said traffic has returned to normal and urged motorists to remain cautious.

Advisory to Motorists

Even though the junction is open:

  • Slow down near the bridge area
  • Watch for signage and traffic marshals
  • Expect minor inspections and finishing works

The Globe Roundabout is one of the busiest entry points into Nairobi CBD, meaning the reopening is expected to ease congestion significantly, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
