Viral Bus Windscreen Smash Linked to Personal Dispute, Not Fare Row

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has clarified that the woman seen in a viral video smashing a bus windscreen in Nairobi was involved in a personal dispute with the driver, not a disagreement over bus fare as widely claimed online.

In a statement shared on his Instagram account on Friday, March 13, Mosiria said information reaching his office indicates the confrontation stemmed from a private disagreement between the woman and the driver.

According to Mosiria, the driver is reportedly the father of the young girl seen standing near the woman in the now widely circulated video.

“Correct information reaching my desk indicates that the lady who threw a rock at the bus, breaking the windscreen, had a personal dispute with the driver, who is reportedly the father of the young girl seen in a school uniform,” Mosiria stated.

He explained that the dispute may be connected to issues of parental responsibility.

“It appears that the disagreement stems from issues related to the driver allegedly not supporting their daughter. The girl present at the scene is believed to be their child,” he added.

The dramatic incident, which occurred in Nairobi, quickly spread across social media platforms, with many users initially claiming the woman had confronted the bus crew over change after allegedly paying KSh1,000.

However, Mosiria dismissed those claims, describing them as misinformation circulating online.

“Contrary to the narrative circulating online that the incident was caused by a dispute over change after she allegedly paid KSh1,000 and the conductor refused to refund the balance, this appears to be misinformation being spread by online bloggers,” he said.

The county official further revealed that the matter has since been reported to police.

Both the woman and the driver recorded statements at Central Police Station, where authorities are now conducting investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

The viral clip shows the woman confronting the bus crew along a busy street before picking up a stone and smashing the vehicle’s windscreen as shocked bystanders watch.

The presence of a young girl in a school uniform beside the woman added to the intensity of the scene, drawing a crowd of curious passers-by who stopped to observe the confrontation.

What initially appeared to be a routine public transport stop quickly turned into street drama, triggering widespread speculation online before the clarification from Nairobi County officials.
