Nairobi Central to Limuru Train Route and Station Guide

The Nairobi Central–Limuru railway corridor serves Line Saba, Kibera, Satellite, Lenana, Dagoretti, Kikuyu, Muguga and Limuru. However, it should not currently be presented as a confirmed daily Nairobi commuter service: Kenya Railways identifies these stops as part of the western metre-gauge route used by selected passenger trains, including the Nairobi–Kisumu Safari Train. Is there a daily Nairobi–Limuru commuter train?

The western railway line exists and passenger trains travel through Limuru, but the currently published Kenya Railways information most clearly identifies Limuru as a stop on the Nairobi–Kisumu Safari Train.

Metros should therefore label this page as a train route and station guide, not a guaranteed daily commuter service.

Train schedules can change at any time. Confirm the operating day, departure time and stops with Kenya Railways before travelling.

Boarding at Nairobi Central

Passengers should arrive at Nairobi Central Railway Station early enough to:

  • Confirm that the train stops in Limuru
  • Purchase or validate the appropriate ticket
  • Identify the correct platform
  • Confirm intermediate stops
  • Check the return service
  • Complete any passenger screening

Do not board a western-line train without confirming that it accepts passengers travelling only to Limuru.

Tickets and fares

Ticket availability and fares depend on the passenger service operating that day. Ask whether tickets can be purchased for the Nairobi–Limuru section and whether they are sold at the station or onboard.

Train fares, ticketing arrangements and service schedules can change at any time.

Matatu routes, boarding stages and fares can change. Confirm the destination displayed on the vehicle before boarding.

Return journey

Confirm the return train before travelling to Limuru. Because this corridor may not have a frequent daily commuter service, a passenger could need to return by matatu if no suitable train is scheduled.

Routes 114/114R, 115 and 116 provide useful road alternatives depending on the destination and operating service.

Passenger tips
  • Verify that a passenger train is operating on the intended day.
  • Confirm that it accepts Nairobi–Limuru passengers.
  • Check every station at which the train will stop.
  • Establish the return journey before departure.
  • Keep a Limuru–Nairobi matatu connection as an alternative.
  • Arrive early for ticketing and platform confirmation.
