Nairobi Misses Out as Kenya Met Forecasts Rainfall in 25 Counties

NAIROBI, Kenya – Residents of Nairobi should expect a cool and mostly cloudy Tuesday after the Kenya Meteorological Department excluded the capital from the list of counties projected to receive rainfall in its latest 24-hour weather forecast.

In the forecast issued on Monday evening, August 3, and valid until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected in 25 counties, with western Kenya likely to experience the heaviest showers and thunderstorms.

The counties expected to receive rainfall include Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Homabay, Migori, Busia, Nakuru, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Bomet, Nandi, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Nyamira, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Mombasa, Kwale and Lamu.

Nairobi to Remain Cool and Cloudy

Although Nairobi will not experience significant rainfall during the forecast period, the city is expected to remain cool and largely cloudy.

Kenya Met placed Nairobi alongside Kiambu, Laikipia, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Makueni and Kajiado in a zone forecast to experience overcast conditions rather than widespread rain.

The outlook offers a temporary break from the intermittent showers that have affected parts of the capital in recent weeks, with residents likely to experience cool daytime temperatures under persistent cloud cover.

Western Kenya to Receive Heavy Rain

According to the forecast, western Kenya will experience the most active weather, with showers and thunderstorms expected during the morning and afternoon in counties including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia.

Other parts of the Rift Valley, Central Kenya and sections of the Coast are also expected to receive rainfall before conditions gradually improve later in the evening.

Temperatures across the affected counties are forecast to range between 10°C and 30°C, depending on location.

Strong Winds Expected in Northern and Coastal Kenya

Beyond the rainfall forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department also warned of strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots across parts of northern and coastal Kenya.

The advisory covers Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui.

Residents, motorists and maritime operators in the affected regions have been advised to exercise caution due to the expected strong winds.

As Nairobi remains outside the rainfall zone, residents can expect a cool, cloudy day with little chance of significant precipitation, while much of western Kenya prepares for another round of rain and thunderstorms.
