Residents of Nairobi should prepare for a stretch of cool, cloudy weather accompanied by intermittent rainfall over the coming days, according to the latest five-day weather outlook from the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met).
The forecast indicates that while the capital is unlikely to experience continuous rainfall, several days are expected to bring periods of light rain, drizzle or isolated afternoon showers. The weather pattern is also expected to be accompanied by below-average daytime temperatures and chilly mornings, typical of Nairobi’s July conditions.
According to Kenya Met, Friday is likely to see afternoon rain and drizzle, while Saturday could bring scattered afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms. Cloudy conditions are expected to persist through Sunday and Monday, with occasional light showers possible in some parts of the city. Another round of morning showers is forecast for Tuesday before conditions gradually improve later in the week.
Why Some Forecasts Mention Five Consecutive Rainy Days
The outlook has generated confusion among some residents after global weather services projected only two or three days with significant rainfall.
The difference lies in how forecasts are presented. Kenya Met classifies a day as wet even when rainfall is expected to occur only in isolated areas or for a short period. This includes light showers, drizzle and localized thunderstorms, rather than prolonged all-day rain.
As a result, Nairobi may experience rainfall on five consecutive days, but much of that precipitation is expected to be intermittent rather than widespread or continuous.
Temperatures to Remain Cool
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively cool, generally ranging between 23°C and 26°C, while nighttime and early morning temperatures could drop to between 13°C and 14°C.
The combination of cloud cover, cool winds and occasional rainfall is likely to make mornings and evenings feel colder than the actual recorded temperatures.
Residents Advised to Stay Prepared
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution during periods of rain, particularly during morning and evening commutes when roads may become slippery and visibility reduced.
Residents planning outdoor activities are advised to carry umbrellas or waterproof clothing and monitor updated forecasts, as localized showers can develop with little warning.
Although no widespread heavy rainfall is currently forecast for Nairobi, Kenya Met continues to advise the public to keep track of daily weather updates as conditions may change.
The latest outlook suggests that the city will remain under predominantly cloudy skies through the first half of next week before warmer and sunnier conditions gradually return later in the week.
