Kenya railways makes an example out of one individual caught vandalizing its resources. On its facebook page Kenya Railways promises severe penalties for future culprits.
On December 21, 2024, Onesmus Mwagangi, was arrested by Railway Police in the Maungu area for vandalizing railway infrastructure. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of vandalized railway materials.
Kenya Railways takes this opportunity to remind the public of the grave consequences of tampering with railway property. Under Penal Code 233 (e):
“Any person who, with intent to injure or to endanger the safety of any person traveling by any railway, whether a particular person or not—by any omission to do any act which it is his duty to do causes the safety of any such person to be endangered, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.”
This offense carries a life imprisonment penalty, emphasizing the serious nature of this crime. The safety of passengers remains Kenya Railways’ top priority, and the company is committed to ensuring the integrity of its infrastructure is maintained.
