A tragic construction accident in Nairobi’s Parklands area has claimed the lives of at least two workers after a wall collapsed at a building site along Suswa Road. The wall, which formed part of the building’s basement structure, suddenly gave way and buried the workers under heavy debris.
Authorities reported that the wall had been built directly on the property boundary, creating a structural risk to both the workers and surrounding buildings. Police believe the collapse was worsened by recent heavy rains, which may have weakened the foundation.

A video taken at the scene shows fellow workers frantically trying to rescue their colleagues, but they were forced to abandon the attempt when another section of the wall began to crumble. Emergency responders arrived later and recovered the bodies, which were taken to the mortuary.
Officials from the Nairobi County Government, police, and the National Construction Authority (NCA) have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the deadly incident. The Parklands accident adds to a worrying pattern of fatal construction incidents within Nairobi’s rapidly expanding building sector.
Just a week ago, 37-year-old Linet Maina died after falling from the fifth floor of a building under construction along Gen Waruinge Road in Kariokor. She reportedly slipped through an opening, falling to the second floor and sustaining fatal injuries. Her body was taken to City Mortuary for a postmortem.
In another May 6 case, 42-year-old mason Frankline Makori fell from the seventh floor of a construction project on Galore Street in Eastleigh. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to severe injuries. Police have since shut down the Eastleigh site pending investigations.
These repeated tragedies have renewed concerns about construction safety in Nairobi, with critics pointing to weak oversight, unsafe working environments, and inadequate compliance with building codes. Dozens of workers die every year in avoidable accidents, raising urgent calls for stricter enforcement of construction regulations and tougher penalties for negligent developers and contractors.
Authorities are now under intense pressure to ensure that all construction sites in Nairobi adhere to safety standards to protect workers and prevent further loss of life.
