Motorists heading towards Nairobi’s Industrial Area and the Central Business District experienced slow-moving traffic on Wednesday morning, with Exit 9 at Capital Centre emerging as one of the city’s most congested traffic hotspots.

Traffic data showed that vehicles approaching and exiting the busy interchange were moving at an average speed of 12 km/h, resulting in significant delays for commuters using the route during the morning rush hour.

The congestion at Exit 9 comes as thousands of motorists travel between Mombasa Road, the Southern Bypass, and Nairobi’s CBD, making the interchange one of the capital’s busiest transport corridors.

Elsewhere, Outering Road recorded the slowest traffic movement of the morning, with vehicles reduced to bumper-to-bumper conditions and average speeds of just 9 km/h. The heavy congestion is expected to increase travel times for motorists using the route to connect to eastern parts of Nairobi.

Traffic remained moderate on several other major roads across the city.

Along Jogoo Road, motorists experienced moderate congestion with average speeds of 18 km/h, while Lunga Lunga Road recorded relatively smoother traffic, averaging 20 km/h despite increased commuter activity.

Meanwhile, Manyanja Road also experienced moderate traffic flow, with vehicles travelling at an average speed of 16 km/h.

Road users travelling through these corridors are advised to plan for longer journey times, particularly those heading towards Capital Centre, the Industrial Area, and connecting routes feeding into Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Traffic conditions are expected to remain dynamic throughout the morning as commuter volumes continue to build.
