Boarding at Nairobi Central

Nairobi Central Railway Station is located near Haile Selassie Avenue. Arrive before departure to identify the correct platform, purchase or validate a ticket and confirm your destination.

Before boarding, verify:

  • The train is travelling to Ruiru
  • It stops at your selected station
  • The departure and return times
  • The current fare
  • The last available return service
Mutindwa and Dandora stations

Mutindwa provides access to Umoja, Buruburu and Donholm, while Dandora Station serves Dandora and surrounding northeastern Nairobi neighbourhoods.

Because the stations may not be immediately beside every matatu stage, passengers should allow time for walking or a short connecting trip.

Mwiki and Githurai stations

Mwiki Station serves communities along the Kasarani–Mwiki corridor. Githurai provides connections to matatus using Thika Road and local services serving Githurai 44, Githurai 45 and surrounding estates.

Passengers should distinguish between the different Githurai destinations before boarding onward transport.

Kahawa West and Kenyatta University

Kahawa West Station connects with services operating along Kamiti Road and towards Githurai 44. Kenyatta University Station serves the university community and passengers connecting to Kahawa, Ruiru and other Thika Road destinations.

Students and visitors should confirm the distance between the station and their required university entrance or facility.

Arriving in Ruiru

Ruiru Railway Station connects passengers with Ruiru town and onward road transport towards:

  • Juja
  • Thika
  • Tatu City
  • Eastern Bypass
  • Ruiru–Kamiti Road
  • Membley and surrounding estates
  • Other Kiambu County destinations

Confirm the appropriate local stage before leaving the railway station.

Train schedules

Kenya Railways may revise commuter departure times because of operational requirements, maintenance or passenger demand. Metros should link readers to the official operator rather than permanently publishing an unverified timetable.

Check current information through Kenya Railways.

Train schedules can change at any time. Confirm the latest departure, station stops and return times with Kenya Railways.

  • Confirm every station served by the selected train.
  • Distinguish Githurai 44 from Githurai 45.
